Last updated

This policy explains how I handle information for my personal site and the Waypoint iOS app. I’m Daniel Gorban. You can reach me at daniel@gorban.org.

What this covers

  • This website (including the Waypoint product page)
  • The Waypoint iOS app

Website

The site itself does not ask you to create an account. I do not run advertising on these pages.

Like most websites, the host that serves these pages may keep basic server logs (for example IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and reliability. I do not use those logs to build marketing profiles.

Waypoint app

Waypoint is an iPhone travel planner. You do not need a Waypoint account, and there is no signup wall. You can start with trip data stored locally on your iPhone. The app does not issue a Waypoint user ID.

Plans you enter (flights, stays, notes, times, budget) are saved on the device. I do not run a Waypoint server that receives that content. Optional features below can send some data through Apple’s systems, or to people you invite.

Optional iCloud sync

You can turn on personal iCloud sync. That uses CloudKit’s private database under your Apple ID, not a Waypoint login. I cannot read the contents of your private iCloud database.

If you leave sync off, trips stay on that iPhone. iCloud is Apple’s service; Apple’s privacy policy applies to it.

Optional trip sharing

Waypoint Pro can share a trip with people you invite, through Apple’s CloudKit Sharing. You choose whether someone is an Owner, Editor, or Viewer. Shared trip data is available to those people via Apple, not to me.

Location

While you are on an active trip, Waypoint can use your location (When In Use) so a new expense can default to the local currency if that activity has no place set. Location is not used for advertising, and the app does not track you across other apps or websites.

Maps, directions, and exchange rates

When you are online, search and directions use Apple MapKit. Currency conversion uses public exchange-rate data, which the app caches. Your itinerary and budget still work without a connection.

Purchases

Waypoint Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled by Apple. It unlocks unlimited trips, collaboration, and PDF/CSV export. The free app covers one active trip, with the full timeline, offline use, personal iCloud sync, local maps, and local budget.

Apple processes the payment. I see that a purchase succeeded so the app can unlock those features. I do not receive your card number.

What I don’t do

I do not sell your travel data. Waypoint has no advertising, and it is not designed to track you across other apps or websites.

Contact email

If you email me, I keep the message and your address long enough to reply and follow up.

Changes

I may update this policy as the site or app changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when that happens.
